Open cell insulation is typically applied to areas in the home or building that is more difficult to reach. Common areas where open cell insulation is recommended is the attic. Because open cell expands so much, it is able to create an airtight seal in hard to reach areas.  Open-cell spray foam insulation is less dense than closed-cell spray foam insulation and is spongy to touch. 

Lesser Cost - Open cell spray foam costs less to manufacture and expands more than other forms of insulation. Open cell expands better to cover the same amount of space with less material used.

Water Retention - Open cell spray foam retains less than 5% water. It is perfect in areas that when exposed to water, is allowed time to dry.
